Bonsai Styles: Bankan style

Moyogi Style or Informal Erected

Also called Wrapped style, it tends to reproduce the style of centuries-old trees, majestic and twisted. It demonstrates particular strength. It's the classic style people imagine when thinking of a bonsai.

It seems that this style was born in China, where the first Bonsaists developed it from specimens already visible in nature. It has also been refined in Japan, where Zen masters create real "artwork" in the Bankan style, including zoomorphic sculptures such as dragon sculptures.
With this style, it is possible to make the young plants appear more prominent, giving a strong and powerful plant impression.

The trunk must have one or more curves, twisting on itself. The importance of the plant is given by the latter. The coat will have to comply with the rules of other classic bonsai styles.
This style is suggested starting with a plant or prebonsai that already has a basic setting in the trunk, even better if the plant is of a certain age.
The most suitable species for this style are mainly conifers, such as Juniper or Pinus Penthaphylla, but also plants such as Pomegranate.
