Do you have a feline friend who likes to run around the house? Accounting for some little trouble is inevitable, given the impetuous and innate nature of the cat. Even plants and flowers are taken by assault, and it is not rare to surprise the cat intent on digging in the earth of the vases, to nibble on leaves or to get their nails on trunks and branches. The good news is that coexistence between plants and cats is possible: here's all you need to know to make it safe and peaceful.

Which species to choose for the cohabitation between plants and cats?

For a good cohabitation of plants and cats, the first rule is to identify the harmless species for our feline friend. Pay particular attention to cyclamen, lily of the valley and poinsettia because, if swallowed, their consequences can be fatal. Other plants, such as holly, oleander, primrose and rhododendron, mainly cause gastrointestinal disorders.

Cohabitation between plants and cats: tricks and good habits

To avoid feline raids on house plants, there are different stratagems. The most obvious is placing the vases in inaccessible places, such as window sills, shelves or tall shelves. Alternatively, you can fence the plants with a plasticized net. To avoid undesirable excavations, just cover the ground with large and heavy pebbles, or opt for lemon peel, whose smell is unpleasant to the cat.

Last rule: do not give up! The cohabitation between plants and cats requires patience, but the customary nature of your feline friend comes to the rescue: lost the old vices, will be disinterested forever to the "forbidden" plants. Maybe at that point you will find more "tasty" your legs, but at least the plants will be safe. There's no harm in trying!
